The role is responsible for leading the design and development of complex plastic components and assemblies, ensuring robust engineering solutions that meet quality, cost, and manufacturability objectives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in CATIA V5 and a strong understanding of product design, assembly integration, and engineering best practices. As a senior leader, the candidate will drive technical excellence, mentor engineering teams, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Success in this role requires a proactive mindset, strong organizational and decision-making skills, and the ability to effectively balance strategic priorities with operational execution.

What you'll do

    • Lead and oversee the design and development of automotive plastic components and assemblies from concept through production, ensuring compliance with customer, quality, cost, and timing requirements.
    • Provide technical leadership in the review and approval of 3D models, 2D drawings, assembly drawings, and engineering annotations, ensuring adherence to industry standards and customer specifications.
    • Drive feasibility assessment of Class-A surfaces and styling data, guiding teams in concept development, manufacturability evaluation, and design optimization using CATIA V5.
    • Establish and govern best practices for plastic product design, including master sections, attachment strategies, tolerance management, and assembly integration.
    • Lead tooling feasibility reviews, including draft analysis, core-cavity development, ejection concepts, lifter and slider mechanisms, and manufacturing risk assessments prior to design release.
    • Provide strategic guidance on the selection and application of engineering thermoplastics and automotive-grade materials, balancing performance, durability, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
    • Ensure robust implementation of GD&T principles across all programs and mentor engineering teams on dimensional management and tolerance stack-up methodologies.
    • Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) activities to minimize product and process risks.
    • Review and interpret FEA, Mold Flow, testing, and validation reports to ensure design robustness, product performance, and compliance with customer requirements.
    • Lead engineering change management and product lifecycle activities through PLM systems such as Teamcenter, ensuring configuration control and design traceability.
    • Ability to review and interpret FEA, Mold Flow, testing, and validation results.
    • Hands-on experience with PLM systems, preferably Teamcenter.
    • Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, DFMEA, DFA, and DFM methodologies.
    • Support customer reviews, design audits, technical discussions, and business development activities by representing the organization as a trusted engineering leader.
